In the evenings of May 21-22, The Nexus’s construction team poured a huge batch of foundation concrete for tunnel B5. With a volume of 5200m3, this is by far the largest batch of concrete in the project.
The Nexus is a Grade A office building project in the heart of Ho Chi Minh City, with a foundation area adjacent to the Metro station line, a basement diaphragm wall 4 meters from the Metro station pipe, and a maximum permissible displacement of a mere 2 millimetres of diameter. These are such neat figures that they require allegedly meticulous construction procedures, yet done at a speed immediate enough to minimize the smallest possible displacement.
Nearly 200 supervisors and professional workers, 520 concrete trucks, and 8 concrete pumps are all part of this particular batch of concrete pouring.
According to Mr. Nguyen Hoang Khang – Project Manager, The Nexus has implemented numerous innovations, setting a new record in tunnel construction. In particular, the building of five basements with a total size of 6000m2 each was brought to successful completion within only 7.5 months. Improvements have been made in the following areas:
– For columns with a kingpost in the center, use alloy shackles.
– Use screws to secure the board during the excavation process in order to protect the concrete floor beams and reduce the strain on the excavation stage, while allowing workers to remove, keep, and reuse the boards several times.
– To pour concrete foundation and basement floor B5 at the same time, use tole formwork for tunnel B5 to accelerate the construction process
– For round pedestals awaiting top-down treatment, use steel formwork.
– Pour the concrete only once for the topdown columns in stead of using grout
– Use Rib lath for the setting up of stop circuits, thus reducing sanding time while keeping the stop circuits clean.
The implementation of these changes have greatly accelerated the project’s construction progress.
On days like today, one must be present to sense the project’s intensity, as well as the excitement and perseverance of the entire command team.
For completing the project’s largest concrete batch, the Nexus Steering Committee merits commendation.
